iTind procedure

The iTIND procedure is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) that reshapes the prostatic urethra and bladder neck without cutting or removing tissue.
The procedure begins with the insertion of the iTIND device into the bladder through a cystoscope sheath. Once the device is advanced into the bladder, it is positioned carefully so that the orientation marker line faces the 12 o’clock position. The surgeon ensures proper placement by advancing the device until a lack of resistance indicates it has entered the bladder.
After confirming correct positioning, the insertion sheath is removed, and the cystoscope is introduced alongside the retrieval suture to visualize the anatomy and guide deployment. Under direct vision, the surgeon evaluates the prostatic urethra and bladder neck, noting any elevation or narrowing.
The iTIND device, which has three struts and a central expansion frame, is then deployed within the prostatic urethra, typically aligning its central strut at the 6 o’clock position to target the high bladder neck area. The device sits across the prostatic urethra and bladder neck, ensuring it is positioned at the base of the bladder with correct orientation.
Once in place, the iTIND is left to expand gradually over the next five to seven days. During this time, it exerts controlled pressure on the prostatic tissue, creating longitudinal channels and remodeling the bladder neck and prostatic urethra. This mechanical dilation leads to an open, continuous urinary channel — similar to the result of a mechanical TUIP (Transurethral Incision of the Prostate) — but without the need for cutting, heating, or permanent implants.
After the treatment period, the iTIND device is removed in a brief follow-up procedure, typically performed under local anaesthesia, leaving the patient with a wider, unobstructed urinary passage and improved urine flow.
